Ducks Deluxe Official Biography

British pub rockers Ducks Deluxe were purely and simply a reaction.
With the mid-'70s
English pop scene dominated by glitter/glam rockers like Gary Glitter and Sweet or
blustery, chops-heavy art rockers like Yes, Jethro Tull, and Genesis, Ducks Deluxe
breezed in like a cross between the Ramones and the Rolling Stones. Indeed, Mick
Jagger and Keith Richards came to some of their early gigs and even offered the band a
deal on their own label. They were flattered but didn
't think they were ready. One of the first pub rock bands, the Ducks played basic American-style blues and boogie with remarkable panache and thorough disregard for convention. They were hugely
popular but their records sales did not compare with their live success. Nevertheless, the
unpretentious, do-it-yourself, working-class attitude they and their contemporaries exuded (most notably seminal pub rockers Dr. Feelgood) influenced the English punk scene that
was right around the corner. With friends like Dave Edmunds producing their records, the Ducks, (guitarist/vocalist Sean Tyla, guitarist Martin Belmont, bassist Nick Garvey) came
up with engaging, though not life-changing, records that celebrated the simple joys of rock & roll. Of course, you could say much of it sounds like recycled Chuck Berry, (there again, what doesn't?)
but there's an infectious enthusiasm that the fan in you, who simply wantsto go out for a drink, let your hair down and hear some Little Richard, will love. Ironically,
their biggest promotional boost in America, the Ducks Deluxe LP was released three years after they'd split up. This was as a result of ex-Ducks going on to more prominent bands
like the Motors, (Nick Garvey), Graham Parker & the Rumour, (Martin Belmont) and the Tyla Gang, (Sean Tyla).
The good news is, that in October 2007, the Ducks reformed. With the untimely death of drummer, Tim Roper in 2004 and the reluctance of original bass player, Nick Garvey to
make a return to the music business, the new line-up now features co-founders, Sean Tyla and Martin Belmont, bassist Kevin Foster, (ex-Doll By Doll) and
drumming legend, Jim Russell, (ex-Wild Angels, Inmates, Scotty Moore Trio). The Ducks also returned to the studio early in 2009 and produced the mini CD,
?Box Of Shorts', their first studio recordingin thirty-four years. It was released worldwide on May 18th 2009. The band have toured
in the UK, Spain, France and Sweden in the past 12 months and will return to Europe in
Fall 2009 and Scandinavia in Spring 2010.
